About YogaLife

YogaLife was established in 2012 by Lizette Gatehouse, Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and Wellness Advocate, to offer people a safe and supportive environment to learn Yoga to find and create balance in their lives.
The practice of yoga is a philosophy, art and science dedicated to creating union between the body, mind and spirit.
Life can get very busy with work, family demands etc. as a former banker and mother of two Lizette understands this well, that is why it is so important to create time to connect with yourself and give yourself a moment to be – fully present.
Through Yoga, one can align ones inner and outer experience to live a healthy, happy and deeply meaningful life.

How Yoga will change your Life

Yoga is like a mirror to your life. It is a direct way to tune-in to how you are and how the environment is around you. On the surface you may think it's a series of shapes and forms one does with the body, just like the waves in the ocean constantly sway and move, so does the body and mind; but as you begin to journey inwards, you can find a deep calmness and stability, a stillness that is inherent in all.
As a practice, every time you come to the mat, and work on your self (your body and breath) you can access this stillness and sense of calm. The more you practice this, the easier it becomes to apply ‘off the mat’ you could say, ‘in the real world’. Just like Trikonasana can be a shaky situation some days, so can aspects of life like work stresses or family demands. We use Yoga to observe how we respond to these shaky situations, and learn to observe and not react, helping us to maintain our composure and respond with intelligence to life’s demands.
Yoga can be described as a psychophysical approach to life and self- understanding.
Yoga transforms you by opening up the physical and mental binds that block your potential, limiting your life and brings you many concrete benefits. For example through the correct practice of Yoga, you can work on and experience the following:
Yoga is a powerful therapeutic tool for correcting physical and psychological problems; it gives strength and flexibility for physical daily activities; it retards gaining weight and keeps you opened sexually; it can enhance looks, posture, skin and muscle tone, vitality; and it can give you a life sense of grace and overall wellbeing.
Yoga involves a balance between “control” and “surrender” channeling energy and letting go, so the energy can move you. The concept of ‘control’ and ‘surrender’ can also be understood as ‘transformation’ or ‘resistance to change’ There is no way to remain the same as you are now.
Understanding that as we age, the habit taking-on process makes us more rigid both physically and mentally as our body movements become more limited. We can transform this process by incorporating movements in the way we think and by the way we move our body. Memory lives in the cells, in the systems of the body, in the brain and in thought itself. By practicing yoga postures daily, you’ll notice your changes in yourself as the strength and flexibility of both body and mind begins to improve.
The body has its own intelligence, and being able to listen to and learn from that intelligence is an essential part of yoga.
What you need for yoga?
Nothing. Just your desire to learn. Wear comfortable clothes and bring your own yoga mat if you like (mats and all props are provided). Yoga is practiced without socks so that there is sufficient grip on your mat, and you so can pratice yoga safely.

- Work on the cardiac system improving the circulation of blood through the body
- Improve the correct functioning of the organic system
- Stimulate the endocrine system (hormone production) by increasing serotonin levels (hello happiness hormones!)
- Help the lymphatic system get rid of toxic waste
- Balance the nervous system easing stress and anxiety
- Strengthen the immune system
- Work on the respiratory system through pranayama (breath exercises) and improve lung capacity and functioning
